Try GradientEngine

GradientEngine's renderer, rebuilt in WebGL so you can try its settings here: pick a look or a preset, drag the settings, edit the colour stops on the bar under the picture and drag in the picture to move the gradient. Switch the layer to Title or Photo to try the blend modes, and use Before / After to compare. It runs the same per-pixel code as the plugin, which renders inside After Effects on your GPU or CPU.

About this plugin

Apply GradientEngine to a layer from Effect > Generate and it draws a gradient ramp of up to 32 colour stops, which you edit on a colour bar in the Effect Controls: click to add a stop, drag to move it, double-click to pick its colour. Start from one of 21 presets, from Sunset, Aurora and Vaporwave to Chrome, Light Sweep and Glow Ring, and blend the colours in RGB, linear light, OKLab or OKLCH, so the colours in between stay bright, with linear, smooth, spline or constant interpolation and steps for banded looks. Shape the ramp as linear, reflected, radial, angular, spiral, diamond or square, placed by its centre, angle and size or by a start and an end point, with an aspect ratio and spiral arms. Past its ends it holds, repeats, wraps its colours round, mirrors or fades to transparent, and an offset speed and a spin speed animate it, as a seamless loop if you like. Fractal noise displaces the colours along the ramp and swirls them around, smooth, turbulent or ridged, with scale, stretch, rotation, complexity, roughness, evolution and drift, and grain adds a uniform, Gaussian or blue-noise texture. Put the gradient on the layer with 17 blend modes or an alpha or luma matte, or show it alone, keep the layer's alpha for fills on text, and unmult it to turn black transparent. It renders on your GPU with CUDA or OpenCL, or on the CPU, in 8, 16 and 32 bpc, with antialiasing and dither against banding.

What it does

  • Up to 32 colour stops, edited on a colour bar in the Effect Controls
  • 21 presets: Sunset, Ocean, Fire, Neon, Aurora, Rainbow, Vaporwave, Chrome, Light Sweep, Glow Ring and more
  • Colours blended in RGB, linear light, OKLab or OKLCH (shorter or longer hue)
  • Linear, smooth, spline or constant interpolation, with steps, reverse and distribute evenly
  • Seven shapes: linear, reflected, radial, angular, spiral, diamond and square
  • Placed by centre, angle and size or by start and end points, with aspect ratio and spiral arms
  • Hold, repeat, repeat and wrap colours, mirror or transparent past the ends
  • Animated offset and spin, with seamless loops
  • Fractal noise that displaces and swirls the ramp: smooth, turbulent or ridged, with evolution and drift
  • Grain: uniform, Gaussian or blue noise, animated every frame
  • 17 blend modes, alpha and luma mattes, or the gradient alone
  • Preserve Layer Alpha for fills on text and shapes
  • Built-in unmult with black and white points
  • GPU rendering with CUDA (NVIDIA) and OpenCL (AMD, Intel), or the CPU
  • 8, 16 and 32 bpc, with antialiasing and dither against banding
