About this plugin

Apply BetterCallNoise from Effect > Noise & Grain for fractal noise that renders on your GPU. Pick one of 21 fractal types (Basic, the Turbulent ones, Dynamic, Swirly, Terrain, Smoky, Strings, Voronoi and more) built on 7 noise types, shape it with Contrast, Brightness, Overflow, Transform, Complexity and the Sub Settings, and animate it with Evolution and its own movement. Seamless loop makes the noise repeat exactly after the loop duration, evolution and movement included, so it renders as a perfect loop. Pick a mask on the layer and the noise runs along it as a strip instead: set its width, taper it at the start and the end, feather its edges and trim it, with the noise following the trim. Built-in motion blur, Colorize with a dark and a bright colour, and blending modes over the layer round it off. BetterCallNoise renders on the GPU (CUDA on NVIDIA, OpenCL on AMD and Intel) or on every CPU core, in 8, 16 and 32 bpc, with Multi-Frame Rendering. For After Effects on Windows: copy BetterCallNoise.aex into After Effects' Plug-ins folder and restart After Effects.

What it does

  • 21 fractal types on 7 noise types, from Basic and Turbulent to Terrain, Smoky, Strings and Voronoi
  • Contrast, Brightness, Invert, and Overflow with HDR results
  • Transform: rotation, scale, offset and perspective offset
  • Complexity and Sub Settings for the finer detail
  • Evolution, with cycles and a random seed
  • Built-in movement: offset speed in X and Y
  • Seamless loops, evolution and movement included
  • Noise along a mask path: width, taper, feathers and trim
  • The noise can follow the trim and squeeze into the taper
  • Motion blur with samples, shutter angle and shutter phase
  • Colorize between a dark and a bright colour
  • Opacity and blending modes over the layer
  • GPU rendering with CUDA (NVIDIA) and OpenCL (AMD, Intel), or every CPU core
  • 8, 16 and 32 bpc, and Multi-Frame Rendering
